CCMCO Mold Coating Options
CCMCO offers two categories of mold coatings, Silica Based and Alumina Based. These mold coatings are available to our customers in both wet and dry forms.
Mold coating is applied before metal is poured into a spinning mold. It is used to protect the metal mold, control the cooling rate, obtain the right microstructures, aid in extraction of castings, and help customers achieve their desired casting surface finishes.

Materials |
Silica sand is used as its base. |
Alumina Sand such as Kyanite is used as its base |
Reactivity |
More Reactive at higher temperatures. |
Alumina is more neutral than Silica and thus it is less likely to chemically react with molten metal or slag, which helps reduce slag defects on the casting surface at elevated temperature. |
Refractoryness |
SVP works very well for applications where temperatures are not as extremely high and do not require such high refractoryness. |
The alumina based mold wash has a higher refractoryness (higher melting point) therefore, it is most suitable for steel castings. |
